Some Class Work To Share

Hi everyone!

The children have continued to work very hard the last two weeks on patterning and writing. Here are a few samples of the work being done!  Please keep in mind that the children are learning to stretch out words when spelling (phonetically spelling words) and they are beginning to form sentences using some of the words in our classroom.

The children are also exploring patterns and discovering different attributes to use (i.e. colour, shape, size).  Here are a few examples to share!

GRADE ONE AUTHORS!

On Friday, the children helped write a description about Luke (Shared Writing).  Afterwards, students created their own description/story about Luke for our classbook.  Check it out!

FUN WITH PATTERNING!

This month, the students will be exploring different kinds of patterns (i.e. AB, ABC, AABB) and learning to identify the attributes (i.e. colour, shape, size).  To launch our unit, students were asked to make patterns using items of their choosing.  Some students chose to show their patterns using art materials, while others explored the block station, writing station and math station.  Here is a snapshot of some of the patterns made:

Students also had many opportunities to explore our "Learning Places" in the classroom which includes our Working With Words areas, Reading, Writing Station, Math Station, Science Stations and Building Station.  It was wonderful to listen to students as they planned their play and collaborated on different projects.  I am looking forward to learning more about the children and continuing to provoke learning through our "Learning Places."

Welcome To Grade One!

Welcome to an exciting year in Grade One!

Our first day of school went by very quickly!  The children had fun introducing themselves and making new friends in the classroom and out in the school yard.  Today, the children read, played games, coloured and explored some of the stations in our room.  It was nice to travel around the classroom and talk to each child about their play.  Many students had a plan in mind and it was wonderful to see so much cooperation!

One of the students asked if he could take a photo of his "waterslide" that he created out of blocks.  This then prompted more students to use the ipad and take photos of their creations.  Here is a sample of what was happening today!
