Random Acts of Kindness!

Happy Family Day!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with family.  This week, we will be continuing to collect mittens and socks for "Shepherds of Good Hope" and participating in "Random Acts of Kindness."  Hopefully, your child will also do some acts of kindness at home.




We are also starting our new math unit in Geometry and Spatial Sense:  Exploring 2D and 3D shapes.  The children have explored the shapes and have brainstormed some ways to reach our learning goals for this unit.  These learning goals include:  Being able to name and describe shapes and solids, identify attributes of the solids (things they can do like roll, stack) and sort the shapes using a sorting rule.   Here are some photos of the exploration of the shapes and solids.

Happy Valentine's Day!

On Friday, we will be making a “Friendship Fruit Salad.” Each child is asked to bring in enough fruit for 4 people to share (i.e. 12 Strawberries or 3 bananas). We will be taking the fruit and making a large fruit salad for everyone to share for snack in the afternoon. Please send a bowl and spoon with your child on Friday to enjoy our “Friendship Fruit Salad.” Thank you so much for your participation!

Play is Work!

Hi everyone!

This past week, the children have been having fun working and creating structures.  For the children, this type of work is "play."  For me, this "play" allows for them to investigate and apply what they have learned about structures, materials and types of fasteners.  It was wonderful watching the children collaborate with one another on a structure for our "Alien Planet" and revise their plans on how to build it (based on their experiences with the materials and fasteners).  Our "Alien Planet" is well on its way to becoming complete!  More photos will follow as we finish our project!

Wear A Sweater On Thursday!

This Thursday, St.Stephen Catholic School will be participating in WWF's fight against climate change.  Our heat will be turned down and all students are asked to be cozy in a favourite sweater.  Our class has advertised throughout the school about this day and it would be nice to have everyone participate.  Please consider participating as a family too!  Thank you!
